From A Cow Says Moock's Original Liner Notes
My hope is that I've made an album here that kids and parents can listen to and enjoy together.
As a father of toddlers, I've become especially aware of how important such albums are to our
collective sanity. Especially on long car drives.
Fortunately, we seem to be in the midst of something of a kids' music renaissance. There are
some wonderful musicians out there right now who recognize the intelligence and musical
sophistication of young audiences. It's a trend which seems to hearken back to an earlier time
in our history, when musicians didn't draw such distinct lines between kids' and adults' music,
or between genres in general.
Included on this album are songs by four of my musical heroes — musicians who crossed all sorts
of lines and made music for all sorts of people, big and small: Woody Guthrie, Huddie (Leadbelly)
Ledbetter, Mississippi John Hurt, and Taj Mahal (via a song adapted from Henry Thomas's earlier
version). If this is the first time you (or your kids) have heard their songs, I hope you'll be
inspired to dig deeper. There's a whole world of amazing music out there just waiting for us when
we turn over the stones.
Love,
Moock
